Fat Kid For Life

So tonight's foodie trek was to Standard Market with one of my best friends/little sister Nora. During the where do you want to go eat phase of planning- which in general I'm horrible at doing- I dropped this rationale: "I go with whatever. #fatkidporvida". I might not reflect the big guy I was before but I still do love going to good restaurants and trying new food. When it comes to picking a place I usually 98% of the time go wherever the person(s) I'm with wants to go.  Mostly cause I'll eat anything but secondly and probably more imporant I want the person(s) I'm with to enjoy the food as well. Some reason that's a big deal to me- not sure why but hey what can you?

I started going to Standard Market in Naperville, IL a couple years ago. I had driven by it a couple times after it opened and was like screw it let me check it out. It's a restaurant/grocery store combo but more fancier say than what that sounds like.  The food was magnificent. Funny enough they are one of those places where you don't tip. Through me for a loop as I was sitting there eating and seeing folks just leaving without tipping. So much so I had taken to Facebook to see if anyone knew what the tipping situation was and all that. What can I say other than I like to be kosher.

I use to always order the Cuban Chicken sandwich but for some godforsaken reason they decided to stop making those. Typically I eat different items every time I go somewhere cause I like to be random but that sandwich was so good I disregarded protocol and always go it. So now with that discontinue I had to explore new options which I basically perused the menu quickly and went with the first thing that stood out to me. I was not disappointed in the least.

I got a California Turkey sandwich (multi-grain bread, shaved turkey, havarti cheese, mustard-honey, avocado, tomato, and red onion) and a side of sweet potato fries.

Nora got the Mustard-Honey Chicken sandwich (pretzel batard, grilled chicken, monterey jack cheese, roasted red pepper, bacon, avocado, bibb lettuce, and red onion) and a side of sweet potato fries

Pretty much the two staples that are must have (unless you hate sweet potatoes or have some sort of allergies) are the sweet potato fries and the honey mustard sauce. Not sure what kind of brujeria they use but those are excellent. True story- I never like sweet potato until I was like 25 years old. Not sure what my deal was other than being a weirdo. Anyway both those things are superb must tries.

For dessert we hit up their bakery section in the grocery side and got some cookies:
Those were pretty delicious as well. Kudos to whoever baked those cause they were exquisite.

Had a great time chilling out and talking shenanigans. So yeah if you're in the Naperville, Westmont, or Lincoln Park area (Chicago) I highly recommend stopping by Standard Market and grabbing some grub. And if you're definitely going to the Naperville 1) hit me up cause you know I love the food and 2) you can help me become a social butterfly.
